San Diego Office Community Outreach to Promote Literacy at Inner City School

Our San Diego Office Volunteered their Time to Read to Inner City Schools to Promote Literacy

On March 2, 2023 our San Diego employees volunteered to read to the children at Porter Elementary South and donated books to the school.  This event promotes literacy and love of reading in support of ‘Dr Seuss Read Across America’.  What is Read Across America Day?  The annual event was first launched in 1998 by the NEA, Read Across America Day was created as a way to encourage children to read. It later developed into a year-round program, with special celebrations in March.  Since its conception, the annual reading day has been held on or near March 2, which is Dr. Seuss’s birthday. The strategy up front was so kids would see Dr. Seuss’s ‘Cat in the Hat’ and spark some attention.  This year, ‘Read Across America’ will be held on Dr. Seuss’ 117th birthday.
